DECEMBER 1-6 --It's December already!‏

I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving break and are rested and excited to head into the next busy weeks of swimming.  This week we swim against Kearns who is one of the top teams in 4A.  Next week we have 3 meets including the Park City Invitational where we will swim against different teams from all divisions.  Add in a Christmas party, and some team dinners and it means there is a lot of time devoted to our team.

We had a fun and exciting meet last week at Cyprus.  I've decided to start naming a swimmer-of-the-meet for both the boys and the girls.  This week Katy Mayer was the girl honored for her efforts at the meet.  She swam the first 500 of her life in a 6:05. Last year a 6:04 qualified for state.  Fantastic Katy!  And then, not to let his little sister out do him, Alex Mayer was the other honoree.  Alex has had a good year so far.  He has worked hard in practice, and his times have been dropping. He had personal best times in both of his individual events at Cyprus. Congratulations Katy and Alex!

THANK YOU to Griffin Hale and his family for providing snacks on the bus last week.

NOVEMBER 24-28 -- Short Week - Turkey Day!

We have a short swim week this week and a needed break from routine.

Thank-you to everyone who donated to the End Poverty Project.  28 of our swimmers contributed.  Our team should be proud!  You are great!  It also helped your attendance numbers!

Nice job at the meet this week.  We had some more REALLY GOOD swims, and many event winners!  PLUS, our team won!  YAY!  Check the Top50 list to see how we are doing.  We have some swimmers near the very top!  The site is not fully functional at this point as far as individual results, but the top50 lists are there.  (utswimcoach.com)  It looks like the girls 200 FR relay (Eden, 'Ainu, Katy, and Meghan) might already have a time good enough to qualify for state!  I hope so!!

Thank you to the Day, Thompson, and Z. Olson families for breakfast and Mayer, Buhler, Price, Mortensen, Hopson, and Phillips families for providing dinner last week! We all love food!!

NOVEMBER 17-22, 2014 -- FIRST HOME MEET THIS WEEK!!

Hello All -

We have another busy week coming up!  I hope everyone had fun at the relay meet and Laser Tag last week.  Things get more serious now. Here we go with another ...long... email.

CONGRATULATIONS to Alex Mayer and Katy Mayer for being promoted to VARSITY, and Nick Olsen for being added to Varsity Invited!

Results
Some of the venues we visit have the ability to publish live results through Meet Mobile.  The free app for your apple or android phone can be found here:  Meet Mobile app
Another resource for swimmers and parents is the USCA website: utswimcoach.com.  This lists the top50 swims to date in the state in each event. We care about the 4A top50 and relays.  You can also find graphs of each swimmers' times by clicking on EAST swimmers.  As the season winds down swimmers who appear in the top50 have a chance of qualifying for state.  The top50 is updated each Sunday night with the meets from that week.  The first one should go up today sometime.
The results of our meets will also be posted on our blog site: eastswimteam.blogspot.com  Click on the Meet Results tab.

Relay Meet
Good job at the relay meet!  I was so happy that EVERY swimmer entered showed up ready to swim!  You are AWESOME.  The boys team AND girls team EACH WON 3 relays!!  The girls won the 200 Partner Medley (Dana, Abbey, Mary, Jamie, Sammy, Ally, Stephanie, Olivia) with great coaching from Ian, and the 800 Free Relay (Eden, Katy, Maddie, Meghan) which is the most difficult relay in the meet.  The boys won the T-shirt relay (Hank, Nick, Zach, Alex) keeping the tradition alive, and the 400 Medley Relay (Griffin, Nathan, Jack, James) which is the 2nd hardest relay event.  EAST really cleaned up in the Fin Relay winning BOTH the boys (Alex, Jared, Nate, Griffin) AND the girls (Mei, Eden, Jamie, Katy).  As a team, EAST place third, beating Highland by 2 points!  YEAH!

Activites LAST week
The laser party on Saturday was well attended and really fun!  MANY thanks to the Hopson, Jensen, Wright, and Swanson families for making it a success!  Watch for photos on the Blog site.

Thank you to the Jensen, Tippets and Olsen Families for breakfast and Sullivan family for meet snacks last week!

Let’s End Poverty

A PROGRAM OF CHOICE HUMANITARIAN

CLOTHING DRIVE

BRING CLOTHING, BOOKS, SHOES & OTHER HOUSEHOLD ITEMS TO HELP END POVERTY

November 17th – 24th

You may have heard that the East High Student Senate is hosting a drive in conjunction with Choice Humanitarian – Lets End Poverty, to collect clothing, books and household items to help end poverty around the world.

The drive is scheduled for November 17th-24th (for clubs and teams only, the drive ends school wide on the 21st). To maximize participation and build excitement throughout the school, it has been decided that there will be a competition between the clubs and sports teams to see who can collect the most bags.

To encourage Swim Team participation for a donation of clothing, books, shoes or household items Coach Cathy will give a make-up swim practice credit.

Bring your donations to any MORNING practice November 17-24 and deliver to Joslin Wright at the breakfast tables.  She will collect your donation and make note, then you will receive the practice credit.

We challenge all swimmers to donate even if they don’t need extra participation credits to show swim team spirit and school pride!

NOVEMBER 10-15, 2014 -- Great Week Last Week!

Hi all,

First of all - Fabulous job at the meet everyone!  Many of you beat your best times from last year.  Amazing!  Our team scores were not great, but like I told you at practice, we can't win as a team unless we fill all the events.  We had several events with only one person swimming.  We also had several people unable to swim, for various reasons.  Both of those things need to change if we want to win as a team.  Individually though, wow!  You were fantastic!  That was a great start.  Let's keep it up!  You can find results on the blog: eastswimteam.blogspot.com

Second - GREAT job at the Chipotle fundraiser!  We raised $1278.  This money will be used for activities, travel, equipment, and the year end banquet.  I loved the camaraderie I felt between team members.

Next - There is a team activity planned for November 15 at 7:45 pm - Lazer Quest and Dinner (7202 S 900 E, Midvale) The team will play two laser tag games and have pizza in the party room.  The cost for this activity is $5 per swimmer which we will collect that evening. There will be a sign-up list at practice this week to get a count of swimmers that will be participating.

Parents, if you can help with this activity please contact Jodie Swanson (snjswanson@msn.com or 801-712-0456).

NOVEMBER 3-7, 2014--Busy Swim Week Coming Up!

Hello Swimmers and Parents -

This is a long email. We have a busy week coming up including our LAST fundraiser and our FIRST meet!

First - Please help us spread the word about the last team sponsored fundraiser on Tuesday November 4th from 6-9pm at Chipotle on 21st South. The team receives 50% of the proceeds from the sales that night.  We encourage every swimmer to bring family and friends to come eat.  Attached is the flyer (single/double) to print or post on your FACEBOOK, INSTAGRAM and/or TWITTER accounts and EMAIL/TEXT it to your family and friends so we can get as many people as possible.  We'll be posting flyers around the school and plan to advertise around the community this week. Remember to come support our team!

Second - Our first meet!! On Friday November 7th.  The bus will DEPART from 8th South outside the Gyms at 2pm.  You will be excused from class at 1:45pm.  EVERYONE is expected to be on the bus!  Meets count DOUBLE!  If you are unable to swim because of low attendance, or some other reason (??), you must still come and cheer on your teammates. REMEMBER to wear your new EAST SWIM TEAM attire to school on Friday. Everyone is expected to ride the bus both directions.  You may get a ride home with your OWN parent if the PARENT tells me IN PERSON that you will not be on the bus.  NO EXCEPTIONS to this rule.  PLEASE don't leave without a parent telling me, or the whole team sits and waits on the bus while we try to find you.  We should arrive back at East High at about 6-6:30pm.  After the meet, the team will go to dinner at Costa Vida in Foothill Village, so bring money to pay for your dinner if you plan to go (strongly encouraged).
