FEBRUARY 16, 2015 -- State Wrap-Up

Hello All!

Congratulations to all who participated in the 4A State Meet!  You were all great sports, and tried your best, and I was proud of you!
Thank you to all the parents and swimmers who came down to support the EAST state swimmers.
Thank you to Joslin and Jodie for the treat bags, and coolers of treats, and arranging the dinner, and taking care of us in all ways.

The meet was very competitive this year - East placed 15th in the Women with 62 points, and 14th in the Men with 50 points.  Skyline easily won both the men and the women.
You can see the complete 4A results at www.utswimcoach.com.

I have attached a couple of files:

  • Meghan was on the podium for both of her events finishing 2nd in both the 200 and 500 freestyles
  • Nathan was on the podium for his 5th place finish in the 100 breaststroke
  • The boys Medley relay won their heat and took 9th overall
  • The girls 400 free relay took 2nd in their heat and took 10th overall
  • The bus on Saturday was 30 minutes late getting to East to take us to the meet - sending us scrambling for rides before it finally showed up (more like a lowlight)!
  • The dinner after the meet on Saturday was great, and everyone seemed to have fun when it was finally possible to relax!

Our next event is the Banquet on March 23rd - see the attached notice.  I hope to see ALL of you there!
By then, we will already be working on next years meet schedule!  It would be great to have some more swimmers, so everyone start looking for new team members for next year.

See you March 23rd!

Other than the college meets, the state meets are the fastest meets in the state. Meghan is seeded second in the 200 Free, and third in the 500 Free, so she will be right up at the front!  Nathan, also, is in the fast heat of Breaststroke, so that will be really fun too.

FEBRUARY 2 - 6, 2015 -- Region and State!

Hi all -

First of all - huge thanks to all of the swimmers and families who put so much time and energy, and heart and soul, into the swim season this year. Swimming is a tough sport that requires a lot of time, and patience, and attention to detail.  The parents have been a fabulous support to the team this year, making it a better experience for everyone.

Awesome job at the Region meet!  I feel like everyone did the best they could.  That is all I could possibly ask for. Results were better for some than others, and it is always nicest to end the season on a high, but in any sport, sometimes things don't go exactly as wished for.  I am proud of all of you.  Many of you swam through sickness, and injury, and everyone sacrificed at times to be a part of the team.  Thank you!

Region Meet Results | Individual Results

Thanks to the Brush, Colgan, and Wright families for breakfasts and bus treats last week.

I have gone through the State qualifying and made my best guesses.  Keep in mind, I will not be right.  I am trying to guess what coaches and swimmers are thinking.  I'm sure I've guessed wrong in some cases.  Mark and I usually compare notes, so I will have his insight to consider tomorrow.  He won't be right about everything either.  There could be ineligible swimmers and invalid times in the lists, or swimmers who quit the team, or swimmers who won't swim a particular event because they don't like it, etc.  Too many unknown variables, so this is a GUESS. State entries are due Feb 4th.  I will turn in anyone remotely close.  Meghan and Katy need to let me know which two events they want to swim.  The state team is listed below.

FEBRUARY 1, 2015 -- Region Results

Nice Job Everyone!!!

We had a lot of best times, and our relay swims were awesome!

Full meet results, and individual results, are posted on the blog results tab.

Just a couple of highlights:
  • Jack swam out of his mind dropping 5 seconds in his IM and 15 seconds in the 500, getting 4th in both.
  • Meghan (finally) broke the 2:00 barrier in her 200 free.  If the race had been 6 inches shorter, she would have won.
  • Danielle Rummler placed FIRST at her region diving meet
  • Nathan got 2nd in the Breaststroke, his ONLY individual event, because he unselfishly agreed to sacrifice an individual event in order to swim all three relays and try to help them all qualify for state.
  • Our relay times would ALL have gotten into state last year - my fingers are crossed for this year
  • Eden was recognized during the break as an Academic All State Nominee from Region 6
  • East podium finishers included
    • Boys Medley Relay - 3rd - Cameron, Nathan, Jack, James
    • Meghan - 2nd 200 Free, 3rd 100 Fly
    • Katy - 6th 200 Free, 4th 100 Back
    • Jack - 4th 200 IM, 4th 500 Free
    • James - 6th 100 Free
    • Girls 200 Free Relay - 3rd - Eden, Katy, 'Ainu, Meghan
    • Griffin - 6th 100 Back
    • Nathan - 2nd 100 Breast
    • Girls 400 Free Relay - 3rd - 'Ainu, Katy, Eden, Meghan
    • Danielle Rummler - Diving 1st
I will send out more info about next week tomorrow.  Individual qualifiers, relay qualifiers, and alternates will be expected to practice and participate with the state team for the next two weeks.  EVERYONE is encouraged to attend the state meet.  Team members are WELCOME to ride the bus to BYU.  The swimmers need support from their teammates!  More details will be coming in the next few days.  The state meet is Feb 13 & 14.

Nice job!
Go East!
