February 15, 2016 -- STATE WRAP-UP
Hello All!
Thank you to everyone, swimmers, and
parents, siblings, grandparents, friends, etc, who came to support our
team at the state meet! You were a great cheering section. We improved
over last year, with the girls placing 9th and the boys 12th. Everyone
tried their best. As always, emotions were high with tears, and smiles -
sometimes all within a few seconds! Complete results can be found in
the 4A column at utswimcoach.com.
Also down under EAST Swimmers, there is a file for each swimmer with
times and results graphed for each meet this year, and, if not a
freshman, previous years.
Thank-you to the Day
and Wright families for supplying treats and drinks for the swimmers on
the deck at State. And, as always, through the entire year, the Swanson
family for treats, and yard signs, and banners, and shirts, and going
above anything we could hope for. Also, a huge thanks to the Rainiers
for hosting a beautiful state dinner, and helping our state team feel
special.
Here are some highlights from the weekend:
We started with the excitement Friday morning of NO BUS, ok, a LATE bus that we shared with Highland, who had NO bus.
Meghan
was a STATE CHAMPION in the 200 Free with a 1:54.02, breaking the
school record held since 1977 by Robynn Masters! It was SO fun to see
her at the top of the podium.
Of 16 individual swims at the meet - 14 of them were personal best times! Awesome!
Meghan
was 2nd in the 500 free with a 5:07.81. It was a very tight race! She
smashed the school record by nearly 3 seconds, held since 2009 by
Alina Fong.
Nathan finished 3rd in the 100
Breast with a 1:01.45, which was also a new school record! He broke the
record held by Drew Bowles (Alexis' brother) since 2003. Nathan also
finished very well in the 200IM, dropping a lot of time, and shootingup
to 8th.
Jack had a great meet finishing on
the podium in 4th in the 200IM, and also scored points in the 500 free,
finishing just off the podium in 7th, and just missing the school
record.
Katy swam well in the always extremely
competitive 100 Free, finishing 9th. She also scored points in the 100
Back, finishing 12th.
The biggest drop by an East swimmer was by Alex Mayer who snuck into the 500 free, qualifying in 24th place, but dropped over 6 seconds to jump up to 19th place. Way to go Alex!
And Cameron, tried again to break that 1:00 barrier in backstroke, coming in with his umpteenth 1:00.xx, but moving up a place in the standings.
Scoring points in the
state meet for the first time were: Griffin-15th in 100 Back;
Madeline-16th in the 500 Free; and Peyton-16th in the 100 Back.
Congrats!!
Relay highlights were the boy's
Medley relay of Griffin, Nathan, Jack, and James which finished 8th;
and the girl's 400 Free relay of Katy, Madeline, Peyton, and Meghan
which ran away with their heat and finished 9th.
Looking ahead:
The
banquet for swimmers and their parents will be held after spring break
this year - the end of March, or first of April. We will let you know
as soon as we have a date. You don't want to miss it!
I
am thinking it would be fun to meet as a team one last time and play
capture the flag. I'll let you know if I can get some pool time in the
next two weeks.

I've included two files.
Everyone did a great job, and I am proud of all of you!!
GO EAST!
